With my first book, Driftless Spirits, now in all the usual places (Kindle, Apple, Nook, Smashwords… here’s the full list), I thought I should talk a bit about what’s coming.

The series title is Secrets in Casten’s Horn. It’s hard to write a series synopsis without spoilers. After all, “secrets” is right in the title! Here’s the gist:

In the Driftless Area of Wisconsin, a small town called Casten’s Horn rests in a secluded valley.  In the center of the town is Casten House.  Each generation, a new caretaker has been drawn to the house.  Charlotte Burke is the third such caretaker to dream of a mysterious journal on a candlelit desk while wandering through the strange house in the middle of the night.  She may be the last.

Casten’s Horn is a town full of secrets, dating back to its founding.  Can Charlotte uncover them all and set things right for the restless spirits of Casten’s Horn?

I think it will take at least four books to tell the full story, maybe more. There is a master plan but I am not sure of the pacing yet. Charlotte has a lot to uncover and a lot to resolve. My goal is for each book to be a satisfying cozy mystery/suspense read that solves another piece of the larger puzzle.

The working title of Book 2 is Tangled Roots and I’m already writing it. Like “Driftless Spirits,” the title has a couple different meanings. (Hint: the Halloween season is a perfect time to start my series!) Tangled Roots will take a deeper dive into the history of Casten’s Horn (its roots), but there’s also a tangle in the present day to be uprooted that sets Charlotte on a new mystery to solve.
