I’m deep in the final surge of storytelling for my next book. I’ve been rewriting the climax of Tangled Roots. I’m so into it, I made sure to have enough food in the fridge that we can eat leftovers for a couple days this weekend.

Writing is hard but fun. New ideas spring to life and the story needs to be tweaked. It’s like standing on shifting sands sometimes. I just have to go with the flow.

There’s plenty of time. I want to put this book out in September, in time for a good Halloween read. Yet I had to get out of bed. I’d already been awake for an hour, tallying little changes to make to yesterday’s work. I have to get them on the page.

Oh, well. I’ll brew coffee in a bit. For now, I have to write.

In the meantime, enjoy some young 13-lined ground squirrels, just discovering a whole new world exists outside their underground den. I was saving it for a Driftless Thursday post, but just like this morning I can’t wait.

Good morning, little ones…
